Why Coffee is Heavenly

My morning routine begins each day with a warm, delicious cup of coffee.  Preferably dark roast. Liquid happiness in a pretty china mug.  I sit and sip, slowly awakening to the day.  My dogs snuggle up against me, and my Bible and devotional books sit on a nearby table, patiently waiting for the lingering wisps of dreams to finally clear from my head.  The only word that comes to mind to adequately describe this daily moment is… bliss!

This morning, I had a thought … when people meet for coffee, a relationship occurs.  Maybe it is a first date. Maybe it is a respite for someone so very busy that they just need a few minutes to take time to re-connect to themselves. Maybe it is girlfriends getting together for a long overdue catch-up session on the events of their lives.  Stories and life experiences are shared, accompanied by laughter, tears, and deep personal intimacy. All this…over a cup of coffee. I thought about my own morning cup of coffee, and the pleasure I gain from sipping a decadent brew while having my morning devotional time with God.  God is all about relationship, and over that cup of coffee, I share with Him my most intimate thoughts, my prayers, my joys, my tears. When we treat ourselves to those precious moments each day, savoring a warm cup of coffee or tea in our hands, we have the marvelous opportunity to be still and to enter into fellowship with the One who loves us unconditionally and beyond all understanding.  As we sip, we drink in the presence of God, and quench our thirst for His intimate fellowship. I certainly look forward to my morning conversations with God over my favorite cup of dark roast.  I have a feeling God’s favorite is “Special Blend.” So c’mon, have a cup with Margaret and me.
